When watching the interview with Dan Gilbert, I was intrigued by his explanations related to memory, cognition, and imagination. I was surprised by his statement that "the process of looking into the future and looking into the past is very much the same except that one is partially constrained by facts" (29:24-29:27). For me, I find remembering events from the past a simpler task compared to predicting the future. I also find that the past is more often associated with positive events, while imagining the future can invoke fear and anxiety. In the interview, Gilbert introduces ways that thinking about the past and future are similar.
