The most surprising part of the interview with Stuart Firestein was the discussion of the relation between smell and the future. Firestein talks about how smelling certain odors can bring back certain memories and remind people of specific events. Firestein described how people not only are reminded of certain memories, but the smells can bring back extreme accuracy in recollecting those moments. I had never really thought about this strange phenomenon but I could really relate to it when it was talked about in the interview. Specifically, I was reminded of smelling crayons as a child when they brought up the smell of crayons in the interview. The intersection of smell and memory is a very interesting topic to me that I hope to learn more about.
