I think I'll remember the most about the section on prediction within human biological systems. First, it was interesting because Stuart Firestein talked about his recommendation for students to look into the mathematical underpinnings of the brain. It was also interesting to hear them talk about the differences in how fleshed out theories are in physics as compared to biology.
In the section on AI, Neural Nets, and the Hydraulic Brain, they talk about various techniques that are used in scientific discovery. There is the contrast between black box models and observation. As we increase our familiarity with AI, simulations, and I believe, we'll see people become increasingly comfortable with allowing models to make decisions for us. There may be a point in time where we see a level of comfort that allows us to make predictions in fields as gravely important as health or international relations without knowing a problem's mechanism to the intimacy in which we currently need to make such a decision.
