What do you, personally, think you will remember most about this interview a year from now?
I think I will remember the framework of thinking about machines as tools as opposed to partners -- this will really help public perception of AI and make it seem less daunting. Machines will likely only aid work as opposed to mimic human understanding or work -- which will make all the future advances in AI less scary.
How do you think any aspect of the interview will affect your own future, or society's future?
I think that the black box problem is quite important to solve! More awareness - like it being mentioned in these interviews - will encourage more people to work on this issue and hopefully it will be solved soon. Otherwise we will solve problems and gain insights without understanding why those insights were made. We need to get more information on each stage of these models and once we do I think we'll better understand machine learning itself, its work and its limitations, and we might better understand what it can be logically applied to (as opposed to problems for which the contents of its black box is illogical). The black box problem's solving is thus very important for the future of machine learning and its application in society. And machine learning seems to be used for so many applications - especially high-stakes scenarios like medical ones, so this will be very impactful.
